iPhone 17 Air is Just 5.44mm Thin

Several sources report that the iPhone 17 Air will be 5.44mm thick, making it the thinnest smartphone in the world when it launches.

2025 is expected to be the year of ultra-thin smartphones. Samsung introduced the Galaxy S25 Edge in January, though it has not yet disclosed its thickness. Meanwhile, Chinese company Tecno unveiled the Spark Slim prototype, measuring 5.75mm, claiming it to be the thinnest phone currently available.

However, Majin Bu, a well-known leaker with a history of accurate Apple product leaks, shared a model of the iPhone 17 Air, revealing that it is even thinner than Tecno’s phone. The device will feature a protruding 48-megapixel camera on the back, bringing its thickest point to 5.84mm.

One major challenge for ultra-thin smartphones is battery capacity, as they typically hold less power than standard models. The iPhone 17 Air is expected to come with a 3,000 mAh battery, compared to over 3,500 mAh on the iPhone 16.

The iPhone 17 Air is rumored to replace the Plus lineup and will launch alongside other iPhone 17 models in September. It is expected to be priced similarly to the Plus model, starting at $800, positioning it as a mid-range device with a 6.6-inch display and the A19 chip. The phone will also feature a custom-designed Apple modem but will not support the fastest mmWave 5G bands.
