Nintendo Switch 2 webcam compatibility: it’s a wild west

Nintendo Switch 2 webcam compatibility: it’s a wild west

The Insta360 Link is among the USB-C webcams that don’t work with the new Switch. The Nintendo Switch 2 is more expensive in practically every way: pricier console, pricier games, an entire Chat button you'll eventually have to pay to use. So it was nice when Nintendo revealed you won't need its own $55 camera to video chat with pals. "You can use the Nintendo Switch 2 camera accessory (sold separately) or any compatible USB-C® camera you'd like," the company wrote. But you might be mighty disappointed if you simply buy a PC webcam off the shelf. Many USB-C webcams…

The best games we saw during the Day of the Devs showcase

The best games we saw during the Day of the Devs showcase

Now that Summer Game Fest 2025 is off and running, it's time for my favorite part of the show: Day of the Devs. Day of the Devs is a yearly showcase highlighting the newest, quirkiest indie releases, and it is frequently the source of some of my favorite games SGF has on offer. This year is another banger slate of titles from your favorite indie publishers, like Devolver Digital, Annapurna Interactive, Panic, and more. I'll have more to share about these games once the show is over, but for now, here are my faves from the Day of the Devs…

Resident Evil Requiem is coming next year

Resident Evil Requiem is coming next year

After a very convincing tease that suggested news was in fact not incoming, Capcom just officially announced Resident Evil Requiem, the ninth mainline entry in the franchise. It launches on February 27th, 2026 on PC, PS5, and Xbox. The announcement came via a lengthy trailer that took quite a while before revealing itself to indeed be the next Resident Evil, focused instead on an office space. But then, naturally, things got pretty creepy. Capcom says the new game will indeed be survival horror, but didn’t provide much other info, explaining only that players will “escape death in a heart-stopping experience…

The best Android phones

The best Android phones

The Android ecosystem is all about choice. While iPhone owners have a smaller pool of new devices to pick from when it’s time to upgrade, there’s a wider range of choices on Android. Some Android phones even fold in half! Imagine. On the flip side, all that choice can make for some hard decisions. Here’s where I’d like to help; I’ve tested a whole boatload of recent Android phones, and I think there are some real winners in the current batch. It’s all a matter of what you’re looking for, what you’re comfortable spending, and what your definition of a…

A GameStop damaged Switch 2 screens with staples, but they’re getting replaced

A GameStop damaged Switch 2 screens with staples, but they’re getting replaced

Some people reported an unwelcome surprise after picking up their Nintendo Switch 2 preorders at GameStop: staples used to attach receipts to Switch 2 boxes ended up damaging the screens on the console, as reported by IGN. However, GameStop says this was an issue that was “isolated” to a single store and that it has already offered replacements. When you open the box for the Switch 2, the tablet / screen part of the device is just under the top flap of the packaging. The tablet’s proximity to the top of the box possibly explains how staples could get through…

Here are three new apps building out the open social web

Here are three new apps building out the open social web

For the past couple of years, the virtual FediForum conference has offered a glimpse at what’s new in the open social web, with last year’s big news being Threads’ foray into the fediverse. This year’s presentation was no different, with several developers showing off new apps that will help to expand the ecosystem of decentralized social networks. Bonfire Social, one of the new apps, is meant to serve as a framework for creating digital communities, each with their own governance and style. During FediForum, Bonfire announced that they’re releasing Bonfire Social 1.0 as the first “flavor” of the platform. Bonfire…

After the Switch 2, there’s no going back to the old eShop

After the Switch 2, there’s no going back to the old eShop

Ahead of the Nintendo Switch 2’s launch, Nintendo said that the eShop would be improved and run more smoothly on the new console. Based on our initial testing at The Verge, it’s immediately apparent that the Switch 2’s eShop is much better. On the original Switch, the eShop can be extremely sluggish. Even just moving from one section to another can have a lag, and clicking into a game sometimes takes a bit to load before you can even go through the process of buying it. The delays and slow navigation make using the shop a huge pain; I personally…

The witchhunt is on in Wicked: For Good’s first trailer

The witchhunt is on in Wicked: For Good’s first trailer

Though Universal’s decision to split Wicked‘s story across two films seemed a little iffy at first, the new trailer for Wicked: For Good makes it look like the studio knows exactly what it’s doing. Despite all of the vibrant colors and singing, there’s a dark undertone in the new Wicked: For Good trailer that speaks to how the first movie ended. Elphaba (Cynthia Erivo) has become known as the Wicked Witch of the West, and the Wizard (Jeff Goldblum) has convinced everyone in Oz that she’s a villain who’s meant to be feared.  With Madame Morrible (Michelle Yeoh) working her…

Elon Musk discovers Trump doesn’t stay bought

Elon Musk discovers Trump doesn’t stay bought

I have been watching, with some grim amusement, Elon Musk discovering the limits of being just another political donor. While he was at DOGE, he literally could control the Treasury and DOD - he effectively had the IT reins of the entire country, and could simply gut things he hated at will. There was a price for that: it destroyed what was left of his reputation. But it was real, true power - being able to stop payments at will makes you more powerful than the president. So much for that. These days, Musk is reduced to begging his followers…

Apple ordered to keep web links in the App Store

Apple ordered to keep web links in the App Store

Apple will have to continue allowing web links and external payment options in the App Store after its request to halt a judge’s order was rejected today by a higher court. In April, a federal judge demanded that Apple begin allowing web links, cease restricting how links are formatted, and enable developers to offer external payment options without giving the company a cut of their revenue. Apple promptly appealed and requested that the order be put on hold until the legal proceedings were finished. But an appeals court has now denied Apple’s emergency request to block the order. The court…
