Huawei launches HarmonyOS Next, ‘farewell’ to Android

HarmonyOS Next is Huawei's first operating system built completely independent of Android. Launched on October 22, HarmonyOS Next will run on a wide range of Huawei products, from smartphones, wearables, and smart home devices to car control systems. The platform features a new system architecture, using a self-developed microkernel called Hongmeng Kernel. This kernel differs from the Linux architecture used in Android, meaning Android apps will not be able to run on HarmonyOS Next devices.
